Being a Mama = Full Time Role Model
Are you striving to be like your mama? Put me down as one mama who is trying to. While I do love my daddy, it was my mama’s footsteps I followed into the bathroom as she put on make-up or high heels. There is no doubt that I am an imprint of her when I put my hands on my hips and fuss about dirty clothes left on the floor. My own experiences as a mama have taught me however that it is easier said than done to become a walking, talking aspiration. A part of being a person someone aspires to be like one day requires role model like behavior, which to me means showing how to do and get things ‘right’. I don’t know about you, but it’s a challenge trying to always do the ‘right’ thing in front of children. It’s easy to forget pairs of eyes are watching your every move when you’re stressed, tired or just plain ole over it. Times like these I find it hard to explain:
- Why I said no dessert before dinner, but got caught putting a heaping spoonful of orange sherbet in my mouth while the food simmers on the stove.
- Why I said sodas are bad for you, but pop one open at dinner (not every day, but still shameful I know).
- Why a four letter word slipped out when I had to turn the car around on the way to school for a book bag we left at the door.
