Italian Turkey Sausage & Pepperoni Pizza Ziti
Today is the official start to spring. It’s time for not only pollen, longer and warmer days but also cooler meals. For us when the seasons change so does our food. It hasn’t happened yet but soon we will give up hot and heavy foods when the temperature gets to be a muggy 100 degrees. So, thick and hearty soups and cheesy, hot meals will soon hibernate while the salads and grilled dishes are ushered in like spring fashion. This weekend we plan to send winter out with one last hearty meal and it’s pizza ziti. A nice cheesy, ooey-gooey way to say goodbye winter, until next season!
Ingredients1 1/2 cup ziti 5 Italian turkey sausage 2 tsp oregano 3 tbsp. butter 2 tsp onion powder 1/2 tsp garlic salt 2-3 cups pizza sauce 16 oz. mozzarella cheese Turkey pepperoni Needed: 2 eight inch round baking pans Foil
Boil noodles and set aside. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line 2 eight inch round baking pans with foil (for easier cleanup). Take casing off of turkey Italian sausage (most sausages that don’t come from the health food store have some type of animal casing so I always remove it). Mix seasonings with Italian turkey sausage. Form mixed turkey sausage into meatballs and bake for 45 minutes to an hour. Divide noodles between two baking pans and spread across the bottom. Divide pizza sauce and spread over noodles. Add meatballs. Then cheese and then add as many pepperoni’s as your little heart desires.
