Summer Advantage: Algebra Math Interactive Games for Teens, Tweens and Kids
During the summer do you adopt the eye of the tiger mentality? No time for resting, it’s time for the kiddos to get busy with the educational equivalent of extra sit-ups and laps around the track. I don’t mean just in reading either. With Common Core and the ever expanding math expectations we’ve got work to do. Is your budding genius set to take Algebra by the time they reach eighth grade? Why would you want your kiddo to take Algebra in eighth grade and not ninth, when it’s normally taken? Well, for one many parents like to stack their child’s academic portfolio with plenty of classes that indicate to a college that their future scholar is ready for college courses. And what better way to say that your genius is ready than to have them take Algebra in middle school. Taking Algebra early also allows for them to take Calculus or maybe even Statistics by their senior year in high school. Yes, shooting for Algebra by eighth grade is teetering very closely to the over achiever side. No doubt about it. But it’s the growing trend in schools these days. In 2000 just 27% of 8th grade students took some sort of advanced math (i.e. Algebra I, II or Geometry) in comparison with 47% in 2011. So without a doubt having a child take Algebra in eighth grade is the current name of the game in schools. This definitely means this summer…we’ve got work to do!
